How many days of social distancing are we at now?! Whatever the count, it’s been heartwarming to see communities coming together to support each other. If you’re looking for another read to add to you TBR stack, look no further than @corinne.manning’s We Had No Rules available now at 25% off on our website! “A powerful testament to the complexity of identity and desire.” - Kirkus Reviews — #wehadnorules #arsenalpulp #newreleases #onsale #spring2020 #outnow #newbooks #tbr #checkitout #timetogetreading

Rainy day reads featuring one of our new releases, The Home Stretch: A Father, a Son, and All the Things They Never Talk About by George K. Ilsley. If we’re no longer in social distancing mode, George will be launching his witty and tender memoir @massybooks on April 28th at 7pm. While in-person events are postponed for the health and safety of our community, the best way to support these artists is by ordering their books from bookstores that deliver or via the APP website (at a 25% discount using the code staysafe). — #arsenalpulp #rainydayreads #stayathomereads #supportartists #supportauthors #localauthors #memoir #newrelease #tbr

We’re featuring all of our spring authors this week and will continue to talk about these incredible books so that their launches won’t go unnoticed amongst a world in crisis. “This beautiful, tenderly written debut novel by Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers winner John Elizabeth Stintzi @johnstintzi explores what haunts us most, bearing witness to grief over not only what is lost, but also what remains.” Dive into this brilliant read, now 25% off on our website! — #arsenalpulp #newbooks #spring2020 #newreleases #stayhomeandread #supportauthors #booksworthreading

Unfortunately, with each passing day, more events need to get cancelled to keep our communities safe. Book tours and readings are some of the best ways for authors to connect with their readers and sell books. Don’t let cancelled events stop you from giving your support to these incredible authors whose books have launched during this troubling time! Find out if your local independent bookstore is doing curb side pickup and deliveries, or head over to our website for 25% off all of our imprint tiles and new spring releases with code STAYSAFE. That includes @amberdawn_mononym’s powerful new book of poetry My Art Is Killing Me. “In this, her second poetry collection, Amber Dawn takes stock of the costs of coming out on the page in a heartrendingly honest and intimate investigation of the toll that artmaking takes on artists. These long poems offer difficult truths within their intricate narratives that are alternately incendiary, tender, and rapturous.” — #arsenalpulp #supportlocal #supportauthors #supportindependent #inthistogether #ordertoday #lgbtqpoetry #worthwhilereads #booksworthreading #newpoetry #spring2020 #newreleases #independentpublishing #bookloversofinstagramu

Shirarose is a very lucky editor whose career has been bookended by Arsenal, where she did her first internship more than ten years ago! She loves collaborating with authors and is passionate about BIPOC and LGBTQ+ literary publishing. During this freaky time of self-isolation, she is reading celebrity gossip mags to stay calm! — #meettheteam #arsenalpulp #hello #aboutus #staycalm #inthistogether #passion #smallpress #independentpublishing #supportlocal

We’re doing a little meet the team over on the @arsenalpulp account so if you want to know a bit more about what I love about working on the Arsenal team, check it out! We figured as a small press, it’s time to share a little bit more about us and see the faces behind the process! Headshots by @rebecca.blissett

Meet the team Tuesday! Jazmin Welch (Jaz) received her bachelor’s degree in design at Ryerson University where she first fell in love with typography and book layout. Now, as the book designer/production manager at Arsenal, she gets to do what she loves the most, join forces with authors to help bring their stories to life. She is also currently finishing up her Master of Publishing at SImon Fraser University. Her favourite parts of her work at Arsenal are: 1) Chatting with authors about what they hope to get out of their book cover design and how they want it to make their readers feel! 2) Collaborating with the talented team at Arsenal, and integrating their feedback into her work to push it to the next level 3) Working on fine details in silence: while she loves people and making connections, she also loves being nose deep in InDesign, perfecting the readability of a page, line by line) Jaz is a pup-parent to a wild-child named Emma who occupies most of her time outside of work. Jaz is trying to read as much of the Arsenal backlist as she can and is currently reading Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead @jwhitehead204#arsenalpulp #meettheteam #hello #aboutus #bookdesign #coverdesign #typesetting #booklove #independentpublishing

Most of us on the @arsenalpulp team who are able, are working from home this week so that we can stand together to try to flatten the curve! This doesn’t mean the book fun has stopped though, like choosing colourful end sheets! We’re getting excited about all the visual titles we’re launching this fall which includes The Name I Call Myself, the children’s book by @hasan.namir illustrated by Cathryn John @flo.studios!#arsenalpulp #hardcover #kidsbook #kidslit #pronounsmatter #lgbtbooks #childrensbooks #comingsoon #childrensillustration #bookdesign

Say hi to Jaiden! When she's not reading fierce feminist works, there are a few places you can find her. Natural habitats include: (1) local music venues the Rickshaw or the Imperial, catching some neo-psychedelic, surf-punk or garage rock shows; (2) the mountains, either shredding the slopes in the winter or hiking in the summer, as a lover and advocate of the environment. What she loves about working at Arsenal is how she's able to engage with social justice movements by supporting diverse voices and creating conversations that challenge the status quo, and the community that comes from that. It feels like she is a part of something important and something that can help change the world for the better. Plus, it's a true gift to work with such a passionate, extremely talented, and endlessly inspiring team. — #arsenalpulp #meettheteam #publicity #editorial #editing #aboutus #smallpress #hi #hello #independentpublishing #publishersofinstagram

Meet Cynara, our Director of Marketing & Publicity! Cynara Geissler has a BA in Honours English from the University of Winnipeg. She moved to Vancouver in 2009 to pursue her Masters in Publishing at Simon Fraser University. She joined Arsenal Pulp Press in 2010 as their Marketing Manager, and was promoted to Director of Marketing and Publicity in 2018. Her favourite parts of her work at Arsenal are: 1) when she gets to pitch Arsenal’s excellent list to media & festivals in person 2) speaking to publishing students and professionals about artist support and community care 3) seeing writers meet their book for the very first time. In addition to attending MANY readings and literary events, she sings alto in YVR Pop Choir, and is a frequent guest on a variety of pop culture and comedy podcasts. Because she never tires of discussing books, she founded Fat Kids Book Club (fat folx who read books by other fat folx!). The last book FKBC read (highly recommend) was In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado. #arsenalpulp #meettheteam #publicity #marketing #aboutus #independentpublishing #smallpress #hi

Every day for Black History Month, Librairie D+Q is celebrating Black Authors & Artists we love! Today, we’re celebrating Téa Mutonji. Mutonji is the author of Shut Up You’re Pretty, the first book in a new imprint edited by multidisciplinary superstar Vivek Shraya. Mutonji is poised to become a superstar in her own right, with a remarkably cohesive first story collection full of gut-punch moments in the life of Loli, a young girl coming of age in Scarborough, where Mutonji also lives. Shut Up You’re Pretty is an exquisite collection that imbues value and insight into the situations and characters it depicts.
