In August 2008 I moved from a small island 🇯🇲 by myself to the US for college. The way I was recruited and fully taken care of, I had noooooooo clue I was arriving to this country during a recession. Seriously, no clue! That goes to show, recession or not. The money is in fact flowing and growing somewhere. Nevertheless, I had to use this time to observe, continue to represent my clients, and dove deeper into really understanding what's happening. And possibly what to expect. • • The fear of 2008 is on top of mind right now, but things are very different today. Mortgage underwriting is stricter and despite the stocks taking a dive the real estate market is pulling through! (Believe me, competition is tough. Those who are preapproved and can shop, are hunting for the home of their dreams) • • In 2005-2008 Americans pulled over $800 Billion dollars of equity out of their homes. From 2017-2020 Americas have pulled out just over $200 Billions in refinancing. 37% of homes in the US have NO MORTGAGE which means paid for in cash! • • 63% of homes in the US have over 50% of equity. Which means the average American has over $135,000 in equity in their home right now. • • Summary: Economic cycles are identified as having four distinct economic stages: expansion, peak, contraction, and trough. This is just a ripple in time. It’s a sad & extremely unfortunate worldwide pandemic, but it will be fixed. It will take some serious time, but it will be fixed. We all have to do our part by staying at home! We all need to be grateful for those in the medical field and those we may have taken for granted, such as the truckers carrying our good. I have faith and as always, I am here for each one of you.
